Sometimes I just cannot handle the bullshit people have to offer.
I hate that I live in a state that gives total strangers behind a pharmacy window the right to deny me access to contraception.
I hate that for years I've had to hear about the "rights" of people in service positions to deny me medication I've been prescribed, because of their personal belief system.
I hate that I never hear about a man being denied a viagra prescription, but routinely hear about women being denied contraception.
After all, a man's marital status and what he does with his dick is no one's business...but it's open season on me for wanting to keep my uterus unoccupied.
I hate that these people are not only opposed to me obtaining birth control to PREVENT pregnancy, but also would force me to carry a baby to term that I am not equipped to take care of, rather than provide me with access to a safe, early termination.
Logically, how can you be opposed to abortion and ALSO opposed to birth control? Does common sense not tell you that the wide availability of BIRTH CONTROL can reduce the need for ABORTION?
HOW CAN YOU BE OPPOSED TO BOTH?
It does.not.compute.
I hate that some pill dispensing, sanctimonious asshole gets to decide whether or not I get access to emergency contraception.
These people have no fucking idea what condition a woman is in when she seeks this form of contraception. She could be a rape victim, she could have a serious disease such as HIV that she doesn't want to pass on to a child, she could be a junkie who doesn't want to give birth to a drug addicted baby, or she could be a regular run of the mill sex addict who slipped up with a stranger during a one night stand.
It's all irrelevant really.
The point is, she has the common sense to know that pregnancy would adversely affect her life (and that of the potential child) and she is trying to be responsible in preventing it.
If this notion is outside the realm of someone's strict morals, they should not be employed at a pharmacy where women would routinely seek such medications.
Look, I'm a vegetarian for ethical reasons...do you see me working at a steak house and then denying folks meat? And if I did, wouldn't I deserve to have my self-righteous ass fired?
That's the problem here. These people have job protection under the law for expressly NOT doing their jobs!!! It's outrageous! Ugh. I mean SERIOUSLY. Get from behind the goddamn counter and find a new fucking job if your prohibitive anti-choice moral code won't allow you to provide me with what I've been prescribed.
It's as simple as that. That way, everyone is happy. You are in a job that doesn't put you in the position of compromising your beliefs, and I can get the pills I need from a reasonable person without having to deal with your shit.
But no. That's not how it's going to happen.
Laws of this nature encourage people to obtain such jobs just so they can get the cheap thrill of telling all female patients the error of our fetus-avoiding, pill-seeking ways.
And anyone who's bothered to observe people like this (controlling, imposing anti-choicers), knows that they are vindictive and vengeful, and will stop at nothing to take away the choices of women. From denying women access to birth contol to murdering abortion providers, they will not be deterred in their quest to impede upon our reproductive choices.
In my mind's eye, I can easily imagine how many of them will be attending pharmacy school in MASS NUMBERS if this sort of thing catches on around the country.
Call me paranoid if you like but this is really personal for me. I have recently switched birth control methods and now visit the pharmacy every three weeks for contraception, and I cannot imagine being denied.
Honestly, it makes me enraged to even consider such a possibility. I don't know how I would react. I'm not a terrorist, but I can totally see myself wanting to blow up the place.
Has anyone ever encountered this? And what's next? If they're supporting this and allowing people to use their religious and moral beliefs to deny women BC and EC, what would prevent them from denying people HIV or AIDS medication? Or pills that treat STD's?
I swear, I will never understand why people are so set on exerting moral and religious control over complete and utter strangers whose lifestyle choices are in no way related to their own.
Pisses me OFF.
Jesus take the wheel, these people have got to be stopped. I can't take it.
There are some reference links at the end of this post (one to Planned Parenthood which is one of my favorite organizations), please take the time to check them out. If I keep posting my head might pop off. I need some wine.
Oh, regarding Planned Parenthood...I've personally applied for a local volunteer position because bitching on this blog, while fulfilling for me, isn't the ONLY thing I can do and hopefully some of you will check out the opportunities in your area as well.
These issues are critical and have the potential to affect you or someone you know...we cannot just sit idly by like submissive, obedient little women while our collective rights are trampled on and ultimately eradicated. No one knows what's best for you and your body but YOU, THE WOMAN IN CHARGE.
Why motherfuckers try to insist otherwise is something I'll truly never understand and if this continues, I may die from panties in a bunch syndrome. This could really turn into a chronic ailment for me.

I wish someone would tell me that I can't pick up by birth control prescription. I would do everything in my power to tear that pharmacy apart! My friend went to get the morning after pill in IN and had to hit 3 pharmacies before she found one that would fill it. Having a retarded rule like this just helps to create more fucking babies to people who SHOULD not be having kids. Just cos u have a uterus doesn't mean you should have a kid. Say it loud and clear!
Vix...OMG I cracked up when I read "I would do everything in my power to tear that pharmacy apart".
Yeah I think I would erupt in a fit rage if this happened to me. Knocking shit off the shelves, screaming at people, making threats, and just being a raving madwoman in general...LMAO!
As much as you feel a responsibility (as a Black woman) not to act like a crazy ass in public, it would be hard to contain the fury. I'm not trying to go to jail and I know you aren't either so let's just hope this never happens to either one of us!
From denying women access to birth contol to murdering abortion providers, they will not be deterred in their quest to impede upon our reproductive choices.
Yes. This, I believe, is at the root of it all: indignation at uppity women who dare to have a hand in their reproductive status. Who are we to decide what will and will not happen inside our own bodies? The nerve!
Don't we know that it's our God-mandated job to procreate? That meddling with the will of God is going against nature? That God's gonna give us little sprinkles of Jesus (aka babies) whether we want them or not? That sex isn't for fun, it's for MAKING BABIES. AND THAT IS ALL. And how DARE we bitches try to want anything different.
I'm just waiting for the day when I can ask someone who dares to get in my face and tell me I'm giving God the finger because of my deliberate unchilded status and that I'd better be prepared 'cuz God's going to give me a baby no matter what...say, "OK, if he can regrow my uterus, I'm all for it, because that would really be a miracle."
"And anyone who's bothered to observe people like this (controlling, imposing anti-choicers), knows that they are vindictive and vengeful, and will stop at nothing to take away the choices of women."
Yes! That is precisely the problem! They are small-minded lunatics. Instead of taking care of their own lives and families to try and make a better world, they're out there spreading hatred, violence and misogyny. These types of people are terrorists. They have their sights set on any woman who dares to live the life she chooses.
BC and EC should be available to any woman who wants it regardless of her reasons. It's not for the state government, the federal government or anyone else for that matter to decide who deserves any kind of contraception. It is and always should be the WOMAN'S choice!
I'm probably too old to get knocked up now, due to being menopausal, and hubby is snipped anyway, but this shit pisses me off to no end. I'm especially pissed off by the part of the article where it's claimed that women "need more information" before going forward with an abortion. Fuck that shit, I always knew from day one that if I got knocked up by accident, off to the abortion clinic I would go.
MM, I think you hit the nail on the head with your analogy about not working at a steakhouse when you are opposed to people eating meat. So if a pharmacist can't agree to filling any and all scripts for any patient that comes in, they need to find another line of work.
As for the difference between birth control and abortion - in the narrow little minds of the fundies, when people have sex and prevent an egg from being fertilized, that is just as *evil* as abortion. These people think that my hubby's getting snipped is just as evil as abortion.
Speaking of which, health care professionals do this shit to men, too. At the time hubby and I decided that he'd get snipped, the insurance we had required that he get a referral to a urologist in order to get it paid for. So he went and asked for it, but the doc refused to give it because he didn't approve. This guy has a lot of kids, it seems, and thinks that everyone should live as he does.
Hubby made another appointment to get the referral for the snip, and I went with him this time. He still didn't want to give it, but when we said that if I had a baby we didn't want, that we were going to drop it off on his doorstep to take care of forever, well his attitude changed. Hubby got his snip, absolutely NO bingo crap from the urologist who did it.
I wonder if this sort of thing would work with fundie pharmacists who refuse to dispense BC or EC to women.
Fundie assholes make me sick.
I think its outrageous that a pharmacist can chose not to dispense birth control or emergency contraceptives. I've debated this a lot. Those that chose not, should work in religious affiliated medical centers.
Doctors can tell you they won't even write you a prescription. I don't see how personal opinion even factors in but the law allows it.
Another thing that sucks is that its damn near impossible to get your tubes tied unless you over 35.
OMG! This is one subject that pisses me off royal. I'm sick and tired of men being able to get an Rx for Viagra, Cialis, or Levitra so they can get their rocks off, but a women who's being proactive in not procreating can't get her Rx filled.
A year after having my daughter, I wanted to get my tubes tied and the doctor took me through changes saying I was too young and some other nonsense. I argued my case and was denied. Fortunately, when I changed insurances, I had a different doctor who was supportive of my choice and agreed that it was my body and my choice. I thought the previous doctor was a complete gaping wide asshole.
What sense would it make to allow me to have kids with whomever; whenever and not let me NOT have children??
I swear there is some real live bullshit going on out there and it needs to stop
I'm worried about this being a problem out of college, when I went to the clinic @ school I had no qualms about getting a prescription I was just told to come back in 2 months to get a full prescription and a pap
